Meet the Team
SGS was launched in March 2008 by a group of friends with one thing in common, our love of Greyhounds. After many years of Greyhound ownership we decided to set up our own charity to raise awareness of the breed and to try to find loving homes for the many hundreds of retired or unwanted racers as possible.
Everyone involved in the setting up of SGS have been Greyhound owners for many years, our love of the breed has brought us together to further the welfare of retired greyhounds in Scotland. We are constantly inspired by our own dogs.
SGS has a large number of dedicated volunteers and fosterers spread over the country, our core committee currently consists of the following members
Katie Sibbald – Chairperson, Treasury and Rehoming Co-ordinator
Hello my name is Katie, I live in Edinburgh with my partner and our nine hounds, Lurchers Sally & Roxy, Pharoah Hound Dust, Podenco Andaluz Purdy, Greyhounds Chisey, Marco, Bumble Bee & Keira, and Galgo Missy, we also have two cats Scully & Rosa and we always have one or two fosters in our house.
We became involved in rescue a few years back when we homed our Greyhound Lulu, who sadly died last year. Prior to getting her we didn't have a clue about of the plight of greyhounds and lurchers, after we got Lulu I got involved in various forums and from there learnt all about this amazing breed and what happens to them at the end of their usefulness as racing dogs/hunting dogs and also discovered a way in which I could help them.
I have been involved with SGS since the beginning, my current position now is Chairperson, I keep an overview of everything, my specific roles are Rehoming and Treasury, both of which keep me very busy.
I love going out for walks with my hounds, watching them all running and playing and having a ball, I also love watching the dogs we get into our care moving into new homes and blossoming into wonderful pets, that makes all the hard work so worthwhile.
